Alive Our Perspectives Are!

While having a conversation today with my friend Eric, we touched on a subject that has been talked about, scientifically studied, milled over philosophically, and studied spiritually. That topic was perspective and how each of us have our own based on many differing factors. Each of us, simply because we are us and not someone else, looks at and understands life differently. Add in societal differences, cultural variances, climates, etc. and none of us see exactly what others see. Take a simple spoon and a table. While I may see an implement to eat with, another may see something to dig with, or something they can move with their mind, or nothing at all. The table may be seen as a place where spectacular feasts are held, while someone else may see a place where families converse, where politics are debated, or where we connect with God.
Scientists say we are all one because our atoms come from the same place. Doctors have said we are one because we breath in what others have breathed out and as we make babies, their DNA is a combination of all peoples DNA. Spiritualists say we are all one because as beings of energy we are all of the same energy, just arranged differently. Perspectively speaking, each of these points of view are valid.
My brother-in-law Eric put it this way, “...as a philosopher once said (can't remember which one) when two people look at a table, they do not see the same table! Everything is formed in the mind by the total of our experience. Even when people seem to agree on something, it's never, ever a total agreement. Experience, and hopes and dreams, and expectations vary. We can agree, or disagree within the limitations of what makes us, us!”
While some will look at Eric’s statement as how we are divided and separate, I see it like this.
You see life from your unique perspective, as do we all. The amazing thing is, our perspectives are alive and grow every time we look at other’s perspectives. In this one fact, we are all one.
Today, look at how others view life. Set aside your perspective for a moment or so and look at the world from someone else’s perspective. From this simple act, you will have allowed yourself to grow beyond where you were a moment ago and you will have become one with another. ~ Mark
