The answer, is to realize and accept that one is in prison, be it a torturous hell, or a simulated paradise. For the one in hell, it is more clear that they are imprisoned, at least until a semblance of comfort and safety is found within routine. Step outside yourself for a moment and look anew at life as lived by you. Do you recognize familiar routines that add comforting stability to your life? Will you accept that your life, is, at least somewhat, comforting and safe? If so, why change? Why rock the boat? Why fix what appears to work? Has the ritual of paying taxes become bearable, if not safe? Does the idea of having physical things make you feel worthy? Does the allure of an institutionalized education give you hope for your future? Does that job quell the gypsy within you? Does war over there, give some degree of normalcy?
“The best way to keep a prisoner from escaping is to make sure he never knows he’s in prison.” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Now, you can either lie to yourself, or you can face the truth of matters. One will keep the delusion going, the other, will shatter the illusions that delude you.
“Above all, don't lie to yourself. The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to a point that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him...” ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky

Look now at societies, and even the world as a whole. Do you notice that demands and edicts about how we are to live, abound? From seatbelt mandates, to noise ordinances, to work place break times, to how to paint one’s home, what one can or cannot say, and a million more rules, are the bars of the prison more evident?
If not, you should stop reading, for this message is not for you. If, however, you are seeing a bit more clearly, it is time to take the next step.
Now that life in the matrix is a bit more clear, you must stop living robotically; comfortingly, or safe, or not. Once one realizes the more obvious trap, one now, needs to begin shedding the vail of everything. From the illusion of voting to be ruled, to coercive societal or religious doctrines, the idea that some are greater than you, must be shed, as fire sheds chaff. You see, you are the most beautiful and wondrous thought ever imagined. You are infinitely more precious and vast beyond finitely confining human based concepts, definitions, and labels than you let yourself know. This one aspect, these self-perpetuated deceptions, control you more than all the other comforting lies you live.
From our beginning here, we were taught the rules of beingness in this plane of existence. Here, we traverse life within a vessel, a body, a prison within a prison. Here, we are given divisive labels, such as gender, ethnicity, young, old, of contrived boundaries, and even relevance and worth. These lies are what divide us from presidents, kings, czars, prison guards, and even each other. When we look beyond the obvious narratives used to control us, they are in every part of our lives, and for the most part, seem normal now. As every generation of control molds the next generation, the lies of the fathers, are lived by the children. If you have the courage to look, you can see these perverse deceptions at work, right now. Day by day, moment by moment, we are losing our chance to escape this prison we call life. We are becoming, if we have not already become, institutionalized, and in that state of being, our future existence is written within each of us.
The next step, our escape, is in our hands. From choices we make right now, we can leave this prison of ours. Again, we must first realize that we are the most beautiful cognizant energy, life, of the Divine, of God, ever imagined. Then, we must accept that we are prisoners, that we are not free, but within confining definitions.
Now, this next part is where many will fall down, and stay safely comfortable. At this point, we must come to acknowledge why we are in prison. We too must take responsibility for our actions that lead to our continuous imprisonment. We must be the change we want. Salvation has been offered, but not guaranteed but through our acceptance. You see, we will not bring our baggage to the birthplace of our essence. This, we cannot do, for we too would bring our prison with us. Freedom does not exist within imprisonment. Though freedom is within and all around us, so too, is imprisonment. We must, will and have to choose our existence. I hope you choose life eternal. I hope you choose you, the precious essence of God.
A great collection of thoughts, put together in an enlightening way! Yes, many are afraid to take that spiritual journey into faith, away from materialism. But our physical relationship with all things physical will eventually fail. Then what's left? Those who don't dwell on this are in for a rude awakening. Thanks for your insights Mark!
