The Long & The Short

Most aspects in our lives have a long or a short, sometimes both. As I travel my journey, I learn in each breath who I am, who I have been and sometimes who I will be.
Some believe that all things are already written, which may be true when we look at the play. However, in this play the actors can improvise, we can choose. The eventual outcome may be the same, but our dialog can be chosen by us. We can choose to sit down for awhile, take a nap, run this way or that, ignore the rumblings, or we can dance to the tunes played by others. We too can dance to our own songs, our fancies and whims, and tell tales we want to tell. This is where our play differs from the scripts of writers and directors. We get to choose whether our journey is long or short. We are the directors of our part in this play.
Now, I must say, ego has a large part in our play, at times even larger than our part. The reason for this is we confuse ego and us. We believe the feelings ego shouts into our ear is how we feel. I say this with confidence, ego is ego, and its voice is not our voice. Ego pounds it chest, it shouts out, “I am right and you are wrong.” Ego does many things that help us feel safe and secure, but the essences of ego, is our fear. Right now, ego is shouting out, “Liar!”, but the truth and fact of the matter is, ego helps us cope with apparently overwhelming situations. Ego is a lie. Ego is that blanket we hide under that tells the boogie man, “I am tougher than you, and I will destroy you.” - “I am right, and you are wrong!”
Most of us will hold on to ego, but some will see the crutch it has become, let ego fall to the wayside, and opt to stand naked with all our inadequacies and faults. Very few will choose this because, this choice is very scary and most of us find it hard to face these fears. These fears beg ego to save us, and most will choose comfort over discomfort. I too have, and still choose comfort over discomfort in some situations. This I work on everyday.
This, our confront of the fear of looking weak and vulnerable is what determines whether we shorten or lengthen our journey. The sooner we see the difference between ego and us, and the sooner we acknowledge and accept our fears, the shorter our journeys can be. This world of joy and suffering, is from the world we build from within. This is hard for ego to accept, but our world is our world, and our societies are our societies. They mirror us, for everything begins, emanates from, and ends with us. It is us who created our societies and our world. We either “choose” to create our world, or let choose to let ego create it from our fears. A basic fear, maybe the most base fear we hide from, is, taking and being responsible.
Ask this of yourself, “Where do I begin being responsibility, and where do I end?” Now, ponder this, “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
So, where do you begin? Where do you end? To who, what and where have you relegated yourself? Are you afraid of being the image of God?

Like all rungs on our ladder, or stepping stones along a path, we have the choice to step right or left, forward or backward, and we choose how long we stay in one place. So, our journey, the long or short of us, is our choice too. The more fearless we are, the more we see ourselves as soul and not flesh, the sooner we come to realize we are eternal, and that our journeys too, are infinite. It is our choice how long we take in each step of us. Even though the play may have been written long ago, it is us who linger forever in the scenes of life, or embrace our parts, make them our own, and be everything God imagined. Whether we choose to linger or climb, step lively or nap, it is our part in this play to ad lib or dance along our way. The questions is, is it me choosing to dance, or my ego that’s pulling the strings? Take a moment to reflect. You know if your life is acting out from your choices. or from fear. Ah, but now you must choose to face the fear of facing the answer, facing you.
How does one get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice, practice.
How does one get to one’s self, to Heaven? Be, Be, Be.
The long or the short of our story is how dedicated and diligent we are in our practice of finding, acknowledging, accepting, and being the simple, magnificent beings we are. The Devine has already accepted us just the way we are without all our self and other imposed trappings. In fact, the universe, God is just waiting for us to live the long or the short journey to ourselves, to the essence and image that is, God.
Today, pay attention to when ego shouts, and when soul whispers. Over time, you will see that the whisper speaks volumes more than ego can ever shout.
Bless us each and all. We will meet again, in the long or short of us.
Remember, I am you, and you are me. We are one soul divided by illusion, but together, we are the spirit of God. ~ I Am - Wisdom
